A taxi driver has returned a wallet containing cash and pearl ornaments worth almost 1.4 million baht to a German passenger at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi airport Friday.
Kraisorn Thaponthan, the 39-year-old driver, went to the airport's police station with the black wallet containing US dollars worth about 10,000 baht, a pearl necklace and a pearl ring worth altogether US$40,000 or about 1.39 million baht.
At the same time, a German man, 43, arrived at the station to report the loss of his wallet.
Josef Sagemueller said he was in Bangkok to have the pearl ornaments repaired. They were a gift he had given to his mother in the Philippines.
On his way from Silom area in Bangkok to the airport, he fell asleep in the taxi. When he reached the airport, he rushed out and forgot to check the wallet.
While he realised the chance was slim to get them back, the ornaments had sentimental value so he reported to police, he said.
He added he was grateful and overwhelmed by the kindness of Thai people.
Mr Kraisorn said after he dropped the German at the airport, he returned to his taxi depot and found the wallet on the floor of the back seat.
