Pattaya Tourism police arrested a 24-year-old tourist from Denmark who had fled from Phuket after selling his rental bike instead of returning it. He was arrested while withdrawing money at an ATM machine in south Pattaya.
PATTAYA – September 20, 2012 [PDN]; at 7 p.m., an arrest of a Danish man for embezzlement in Phuket was announced by Pol. Capt. Anothorn Srithongbai, Deputy Inspector; Pol. Lt. Suthee Theerasawat, Deputy Inspector; and the detective police team.
The suspect was identified as Mr. Dennis Mark Knudsen, age 24, from Denmark. He was arrested while withdrawing money at an ATM machine in south Pattaya, under the arrest warrant of Phuket provincial court, number 432/2555, dated August 27, 2012.
The arrest warrant accuses Mr. Dennis of embezzling a rental bike owner in Tambon Patong, Amphur Krathu, Phuket province. Mr. Dennis had rented a big bike from the owner, but then later sold the bike to get money.
When the owner contacted Mr. Dennis about returning the bike, Mr. Dennis told the owner he had sold the bike. Then Mr. Dennis offered to give the owner money in exchange for the bike. Instead, on June 1, the bike-rental owner notified police at Krathu police station about the bike theft. Police detectives later obtained an arrest warrant from the Phuket provincial court.
Pattaya Pol. Capt. Anothorn Srithongbai revealed that he coordinated efforts with the Krathu police station to follow up to arrest Mr. Dennis, who had escaped to hide in Pattaya. Mr. Dennis is being detained by Pattaya police as they wait for Krathu police to pick him up to prosecute further according to the law.
