An Iranian man has been arrested in Bangkok's Asoke area allegedly with nine kilograms of 'ice' (crystal methamphetamine hydrochloride) worth Bt30 million in his possession and for sale, police said Monday.
They said the man also tried to bribe them with Bt2 million in cash.
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Pol Lt General Santhan Chayanon said the suspected ice dealer - Soltan Mhammadi Reza, 32 - operated in Thong Lor and Sukhumvit areas and was arrested on Sunday outside Grand Park View Condominium on Asoke Road.
Santhan said police staked out at the condominium following a tipoff until they spotted Reza, who confessed the drugs found in a condo room were his. Police claim Reza and three or four compatriots smuggled ice into the country at 610 kg per time.
Reza laid low at the condo room while waiting to distribute the drugs to Iranian dealers in Bangkok. The arrest also extended to a search of Reza's rented room in Ploenchit where police said they found more evidence of drug crimes.
