An unusual canal crossing in Bangkok uses a pedal-powered raft.
Locals pay three baht, around 10 cents, to stand on the floating ferry while young lads operate a pulley that takes them to the other side.
There are several floating rafts along the Saen Saep Canal in Thailand's capital. Passenger boats even whizz by, causing waves that wobble the rafts.
Each one can carry up to 10 people and they are attached to a pulley that works when the operator on the other side starts to pedal manually.

Tiger Hunting, or Kratua Thaeng Sua, is a traditional martial play that was popular in ancient times. It was only played on the Thonburi side, making it rare and difficult to find.

A lot of younger Bangkok residents have taken up a bold challenge in this car-friendly city: they've switched to bicycles. Many locals enjoy making a bike visit to the village-like central district, near a big bend in the river -- even when the temperature rises above 30-degrees centigrade.
On the islands off the coast, there's plenty of sunshine, beautiful beaches, and clear, warm water -- a mix that attracts crowds of Bangkok residents on weekends.
