The man with four names and three million baht in valuables

Phuket Resort Raider: Reward Offered for Man With Four Names

PHUKET: A reward is being offered for the arrest of a Danish man wanted for robbing a Phuket resort of more than three million baht in valuables this week.

Police at Karon beach on Phuket's holiday west coast today released a graphic image of the man, who carries a Danish passport but may have been born in Turkey.

Police based the image on security camera footage from the tourist hub of Patong, north of Karon, where the man hired a motorcycle.

The man, who had been staying at the Kanjana Hotel in Patong, robbed the Karon Place hotel early on Monday by stealing the contents of safety lockers in the reception area.

Karon police confirmed today that the man - who has used four first-names but whose surname is unknown - drugged a male receptionist by spiking a beer.

Robert, Michael, Tony or Pheilpes, as he is known, befriended the night shift receptionist and shared some grilled chicken early on Monday morning.

When the receptionist fell asleep, the raider opened 21 of 56 lockers to steal cameras, cash, passports and other valuables woth a total of 3,100,000 baht. he disabled the security camera computer and fled.

The owner of the hotel has offered a 20,000 baht reward. Police are chasing a variety of leads but fear Robert, Michael, Tony or Pheilpes may have already fled Phuket.

Police have discovered that he was staying at the Kanjana Hotel in Patong's Nanai district.

A similar raid on a resort's safety deposit boxes took place earlier this month on Samui.

www.thai-dk.dk/uploads/aa200.jpg
A Police Officer was shot in the leg and a Danish pick-up driver was arrested following a suspected hit-and-run road accident in Jomtien late on Friday Night.

Police were made aware of a pick-up being driven by a foreign man which failed to stop at the scene of a road accident where the vehicle was suspected of colliding with a motorbike on Jomtien Second Road and were called-in to locate and stop the pick-up, a Bronze Toyota Vigo.

The vehicle was located on the Pratamnuk Road in South Pattaya but it failed to stop and the decision was taken by Police stationed on the road to shoot the tyres on either side to stop the vehicle and its driver.

As two officers stationed on either side of the road opened fire on the vehicle one of them inadvertently shot his colleague located on the opposite side of the road. The vehicle was eventually stopped in Jomtien Beach Soi 5, close to the Immigration Office. After two of the tyres had deflated and the vehicle could not be driven any further. It’s driver was named as Mr. Vagn Zehngraff aged 57 from Denmark, who Police described as “extremely intoxicated”.

Meanwhile at the scene of the shooting, the injured officer Sergeant Major Leunchai from Pattaya Police Officer, was taken to the Pattaya Memorial Hospital where the extent of the injury is still being determined.

Mr. Zehngraff was arrested and charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident and failing to stop for Police when ordered to do so. He is currently being held at Pattaya Police Station pending further investigations.
