Chon Buri yesterday hosted water buffalo races, the annual event that has attracted locals and visitors.
In the run, beefy buffaloes, skinny buffaloes and white buffaloes raced against each other over a 100-metre-long grassy strip, leaving a huge cloud of dust in the air.
The race is held annually in October among rice farmers to celebrate the rice harvest and mark the end of Buddhist Lent.
The Thai water buffaloes are not as aggressive as Spanish bulls, though.
A group of buffalo conservationists earlier this month submitted a petition to the government, calling for the declaration of February 4 as the national day for Thai buffalos.

Chon Buri province is proud of its long tradition as host of annual buffalo race dubbed “one and only in Thailand”.
This year marks the 144th race the province has ever held so far.
The annual race is a celebration among rice farmers before harvest.
The event is in the province’s main attraction.
Villagers and many tourists wait for every race with much-anticipation.
Controlling water buffalos with speed isn’t easy.
Jockeys usually jump off their buff backs after crossing the finishing line.
In addition to the race, the event also has other activities including healthy buffalos and buffalos in costumes contests.
