It never snows in Thailand but Bangkok can boast its own “Snow Town”.
No need to go to Japan as the miniature Otaru town in Hokkaido is right in the capital.
The miniature town is divided into three zones: Snow Playground, Snow Restaurant and Snow Shopping Store.
Twelve old-fashioned shophouses in the Snow Restaurant zone offer Japanese dishes and sweets.
Private skinning and snowboarding classes taught by both Japanese and Thai instructors are also available at Snow Town.
Opening since early July, the Snow Town is spread over 3,000 sq metres on Bangkok’s lifestyle mall Gateway Ekamai.
It’s become a hit among teens and family group as it already attracted over 3,000 visitors since the opening.
Snow Town Thailand, a subsidiary of KK da Vinci Group from Japan, runs the place. The company invested Bt100 million (US$2.9 million).
The Snow Town from Hokkaido joins Eastern Bangkok's Harbin Ice Wonderland in entertaining snow bunnies.
The Harbin Ice Wonderland has been opened since last October in the eastbound skytrain (BTS). It is only 7 stops from Ekkamai BTS.
At the Harbin, the visitors can enjoy a miniature town that is home to world’s best-known landmarks.
The sculptures are craved by skillful Chinese masters.
Singapore-based construction company CIW operates the 3,360 sq metres park.
The group is known for its successful "2 Degree Ice Art" exhibition at Marina Bay a couple years ago.
When night falls, the Ice Bar at Harbin serves a selection of creative cocktails and teas in ice cups to the sounds of DJ live music.
