Officers from the Police Region 2 Child and Women Protection Unit arrested a 38 year old Mother in the early hours of Friday, accused of selling her 15 year old daughter to foreigners for sexual services.

A press conference was held at Pattaya Police Station to confirm the arrest of the Mother and Child at the culmination of an undercover operation at the Rose Inn Hotel in Soi Sukhumvit 42 in Central Pattaya. 4,000 Baht in marked notes were handed to the mother by an undercover officer in exchange for sexual services from her 15 year old daughter.

As soon as the money was handed over Police moved in and detained the pair. During questioning it was revealed that the Mother had borrowed 100,000 Baht from an illegal money lender and was unable to make the repayments and decided the quickest way to receive money would be to use the girl and offer her to foreign tourists who would pay for sex. The child is now in the care of Social Welfare Officers and the mother is awaiting trial.

Mother 'taught girl to steal'

A mother has been arrested for teaching her five-year-old girl to commit thefts in the Sampeng area of Bangkok.

Police arrested Nutra Pudrung on Saturday after recognising her from CCTV images taken last month. She was wearing the same clothes she had worn on the day a theft occurred at a shop selling accessories in the popular market district of the capital.

According to police, on Oct 8, Ms Nutra told her five-year old daughter to grab an iPhone that had been left unattended inside the shop, and they quickly fled the scene afterward.

The act was caught by a closed-circuit TV camera, which was distributed to the media. The court later issued a warrant for their arrest.

On Friday, police in Rat Burana district received a tip that the mother and daughter were hiding at an apartment in Tung Kru district. They were apprehended there and later identified by the victim of the theft.

The mother confessed that she and her daughter had committed thefts three times in the Sampeng market. Each time, she rewarded the girl with snacks.

She said she wanted money to support the family of four children, as her husband works for a daily wage that does not cover all their expenses.

The phones were sold at a shop in Central Rama II. Ms Nutra told the vendor that she had a small shop trading second-hand phones but needed money urgently so she had to sell a smartphone. Each time, she showed her ID card so the shop did not suspect the goods were stolen.
