Court throws out amendment bill case

The Constitution Court on Friday afternoon dismissed the five petitions against the government's charter amendment bill, saying there was no evidence to prove the alleged intention to topple the constitutional monarchy and the democratic administration.

The judges voted seven to one to dismiss the petitions.

After the verdict was announced, supporters of the red-shirt United Front for Democracy gathering in front of the court building and other areas cheered and waved in joy and excitement.

A red-shirt core member said the charter court judges backed down because they were concerned that UDD supporters from Chiang Mai, Lampang, Nan and other provinces would march to Bangkok, if the verdict went against the government.
