Bombers destroy power poles in Yala

Two power poles on a local road at Moo 2 in Yala’s Tharnto district were brought down by explosives late on Sunday might, Pol Col Wichai Chaengsakul, chief of Tharnto police station, said on Monday.

Police received a report of the bombings about 7.30am. On investigating they found two electricity poles had been toppled and evidence two home-made bombs having been detonated by timers.

Villagers told police that the two explosions occurred about midnight, and the electricity supply was abruptly cut off. No one dared to go out to see what was happening. They reported it to police on Monday morning.

Police said it appeared a five-kilogramme improvised time bomb was attached to each power pole and then detonated.

Police blamed separatist militants. No one was injured.
