The Metropolitan Police will have altogether 153 security checkpoints in operation throughout the capital city in the wake of a warning from intelligence units of possible violent incidents in August, Pol Lt-Gen Santan Chayanon said on Thursday.
The metropolitan police chief said this after a meeting with representatives of the armed forces, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, and directors of all 50 districts on Bangkok security.
He said to be specially under watch are royal palaces, important government offices, public utility offices, oil depots, bus terminals, financial institutions, offices of political parties, department and convenience stores, and main roads for arriving and departing Bangkok.
Patrol and special operations and bomb disposal units will also be deployed, he said.
