The man with four names and three million baht in valuables
Phuket Resort Raider: Reward Offered for Man With Four Names
PHUKET: A reward is being offered for the arrest of a Danish man wanted for robbing a Phuket resort of more than three million baht in valuables this week.
Police at Karon beach on Phuket's holiday west coast today released a graphic image of the man, who carries a Danish passport but may have been born in Turkey.
Police based the image on security camera footage from the tourist hub of Patong, north of Karon, where the man hired a motorcycle.
The man, who had been staying at the Kanjana Hotel in Patong, robbed the Karon Place hotel early on Monday by stealing the contents of safety lockers in the reception area.
Karon police confirmed today that the man - who has used four first-names but whose surname is unknown - drugged a male receptionist by spiking a beer.
Robert, Michael, Tony or Pheilpes, as he is known, befriended the night shift receptionist and shared some grilled chicken early on Monday morning.
When the receptionist fell asleep, the raider opened 21 of 56 lockers to steal cameras, cash, passports and other valuables woth a total of 3,100,000 baht. he disabled the security camera computer and fled.
The owner of the hotel has offered a 20,000 baht reward. Police are chasing a variety of leads but fear Robert, Michael, Tony or Pheilpes may have already fled Phuket.
Police have discovered that he was staying at the Kanjana Hotel in Patong's Nanai district.
A similar raid on a resort's safety deposit boxes took place earlier this month on Samui.
